Easy Sharing of NWICG Resources through iShare |
iShare is an Internet sharing infrastructure – a follow-on effort to Purdue’s successful PUNCH project. iShare enables Internet-connected resources such as computer systems, storage systems, applications, and data to be shared easily. That is, these resources can be published (announced to the community) in much the same way a web document can be posted. iShare enables other users to discover these resources and use them as if they were installed locally. We propose to make this infrastructure available to NWICG, allowing NWICG’s resource to become shareable among NWICG’s partner organizations and other sites. That means, for example, that NWIGC partners at Notre Dame and Calumet can use the computational applications and systems developed and available at Purdue without the need for local installations. Vice versa, storage resources at Notre Dame can be used in a transparent way at Purdue.
