PURE-NX

We propose developing PURE-NX: a real-time remote rendering and interactive visualization platform for Doppler weather radar data. PURE-NX allows users to interactively access, analyze, and visualize remote 3-D data. Moreover, such a system is highly versatile and can be extended to build a generic system for a wide spectrum of remote data driven visualization work flows. Users come from research and education communities, ranging from K-12, college, to technical training. Different from a traditional visualization system, PURE-NX creates one common platform for remote data rendering, so that users can get access to the data and visualization resources remotely using a web interface. We propose a simple system setup, as well as a PURE-NX software toolkit based on the RCAC multidisciplinary data management architecture. We will perform PURE-NX performance evaluation and optimization. We propose to develop an integrated environment called “PURE-NX: Purdue’s Real-time Remote Rendering Environment for NEXRAD level II data”. PURE-NX is a 3-D interactive real-time rendering and visualization environment for the NEXRAD level II data where users could interactively select the data and parameters of their interest, perform simulation and data analysis, and view the high resolution 3-D rendered result remotely from a desktop or web GUI client. In the future, we will further extend the PURE-NX platform to provide integrated support for other data-driven applications developed at partner institutions such as University of Notre Dame and Purdue Calumet. We will also collaborate with them to evaluate rendering and visualization quality and performance.
